چکیده

I present light curves for two detached eclipsing binary stars in the region of the LMC cluster NGC 1850, which is possibly a young globular cluster still in formation. One, a likely O-type star, is a newly detected eclipsing binary in the region of the very young subcluster NGC 1850A. This binary is among a small number of highly massive O-type stars in binary systems found in LMC clusters. These two eclipsing binaries are the first discovered in the well studied NGC 1850, and the O-type star is the first eclisping binary found in NGC 1850A. Light curves for two NGC 1850 region Cepheid variables are also shown. Discovering two eclipsing binaries in the young globlular-like cluster NGC 1850 is discussed in terms of the importance of the binary fraction to globular cluster evolution. Subject headings: clusters: globular — stars: binaries — globular clusters: general — globular clusters: individual (NGC 1850) — stars: individual (OGLE050842.01684456.1, OGLE050842.01-684456.1)

Binaries in the Young LMC Cluster NGC 1850 Stuart

Evolutionary status and age spread in the young LMC cluster NGC 1850A

IUE spectra have been obtained for 15 members of the very young LMC cluster NGC 1850A. The extinction law toward the cluster is similar to the one generally accepted for the 30 Dor region. We derive the effective temperatures and bolometric luminosities to estimate the age and mass for each star. An age spread of 2 to 10 Myr is estimated, suggesting a more or less continuous star formation proc...

Automated analysis of eclipsing binary lightcurves with EBAS. II. Statistical analysis of OGLE LMC eclipsing binaries

In the first paper of this series we presented EBAS, a new fully automated algorithm to analyse the lightcurves of eclipsing binaries, based on the EBOP code. Here we apply the new algorithm to the whole sample of 2580 binaries found in the OGLE LMC photometric survey and derive the orbital elements for 1931 systems. To obtain the statistical properties of the short-period binaries of the LMC w...

Analysis of the eclipsing binaries in the LMC discovered by OGLE: Period distribution and frequency of the short-period binaries

We review the results of our analysis of the OGLE LMC eclipsing binaries (Mazeh, Tamuz & North 2006), using EBAS — Eclipsing Binary Automated Solver, an automated algorithm to fit lightcurves of eclipsing binaries (Tamuz, Mazeh & North 2006). After being corrected for observational selection effects, the set of detected eclipsing binaries yielded the period distribution and the frequency of all...

Eclipsing binaries in the LMC: a wealth of data for astrophysical tests

We have analysed publicly available MACHO observations of 6833 variable stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud, classified as eclipsing binaries. After finding that a significant fraction of the sample was misclassified, we redetermined periods and variability class for all stars, producing a clean sample of 3031 eclipsing binaries. We have investigated their distribution in the periodcolor-lumino...
